Motaung Young Fighters held Mochudi Centre Chiefs to a 1-all draw in a Debswana First Division South clash played at Mahusane grounds Saturday.
In the first half, Fighters were a dominant side, taking advantage of being accustomed to the sandy pitch that had visitors struggling to acclimatise to.
Motaung’s Otlaadisa Shadikong received a yellow card after he injured Magosi’s Oarabile Powe.
Although 13 points adrift of Fighters, Chiefs squandered their chances that could have seen them easily walk over the hosts.
Fighters’ goalkeeper, Sekgele Nageng, had his reflexes at play.
He constantly dowsed the Chiefs’ fire to earn his team a point at home.
The two sides went for recess perched at nil each.
However, Chiefs’ Marlven Moyo powered home with a header in the second half to break a over 67 minutes long stalemate after a free-kick by Khumoetsile Kufigwa.
Moyo’s goal seemed to have rattled the lion’s cage as the host fought like a wounded buffalo and their efforts finally paid off after they were awarded a penalty.
In a post-match interview, Fighters head coach Goitsemodimo Morulane showered his boys with praises. In his view the boys matched their opponents.
For his part, Chiefs head coach, Thatayamodimo Tebele commended his team for a good performance despite the challenging terrains.
He said the pitch impacted on his team’s performance. ENDS
