Galaxy turn focus to Africa

07 Feb 2022

Jwaneng Galaxy will leave for Tunisia today for their CAF Champions League clash with Esperance de Tunis.

The team will leave for north Africa in high spirits after defeating Masitaoka  2-0 in a premier league encounter in Jwaneng on Sunday.

Thabang Sesinyi and Resaobaka Thatanyane found the back of the net for the hosts.

Galaxy coach, Morena Ramoreboli, said in an interview that they would give their all in Tunisia.

“We have an advantage in that we will go into the game as underdogs and many people are not really expecting a lot from us. That sort of takes pressure off our shoulders,” he said.

Ramoreboli also said playing against Esperance was motivation enough for his players, adding that it would afford them a chance to be recognised.

Concerning the Masitaoka game, Ramoreboli said Majatlhaga showed character and gave them a good game, adding that they had to be patient and to utilise space behind defenders.

He, however, said they still needed to work on a few aspects.

“We need to work on our midfield and not to allow our opponents too much movement. We have also been lacking in player commitment, especially in the last quarter of games, but in this game my players were committed until the end,” he said.

Sesinyi, who is currently joint top-scorer with Gaborone United’s Thatayaone Kgamanyane with 12 strikes each, also said he was hoping to take his form to the CAF Champions league.

“I work as hard in training as I do during games. Although I welcome being top of the charts right now, being the top goal scorer is not a priority for me. Helping the team is what I value most as that will be beneficial to everybody,” he said.

Sesinyi said facing Esperance would be the highlight of his career.

“It will give us a chance to show or mettle as players and we promise our fans that we will give it our all and make them proud,” he said.

For his part, Majatlhaga coach Ofentse Mabeo said their plan was to avoid conceding goals in the first half.

“We were facing an experienced team and an experienced coach. We are happy that we created a few chances, but it’s unfortunate that we failed to convert them,” he said.

Mabeo said although their plan was derailed in the first half, he was, however, happy with his team’s response in the second stanza as they managed to contain the home side.

He was also confident that should they keep that same discipline, they would improve as a team. ENDS
