Sport movement appeals for sponsorship

Volunteers are key to sport development.
Botswana Sports Volunteers Movement (SVM) - Maun branch chairperson, Ralph Ledimo, said this at SVM branch annual general meeting in Maun on Saturday.
Ledimo said the branch, which covered Ngamiland and Chobe regions, had many planned events which failed to take off due to lack of funds.
He, therefore, appealed to the business community to come on board and assist the branch.
He said the plan was to have active sub-regional offices in Okavango and Chobe so as to easily carryout the movement’s mandate, but lack of funds delayed the process.
He urged people to join SVM Maun branch since there were a lot of sports activities in the region that required more volunteers.
Ledimo said though Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) assisted SVM regions with funds, it was not enough for SVM Maun to attain its goals.
Botswana SVM national executive Community vice-chairperson, Tapson Patane, said the movement was a BNSC sub-structure.
Therefore, he said it was crucial for SVM regional committees to uphold good governance, team work and good record keeping to ensure continuity.
The sports movement, he said had an inclusive policy, accommodating different groups as people, those with disability, and women empowerment.
Botswana SVM general secretary Moses Poloko said Botswana SVM planned to sign MoU with national sports associations in the country.
He said the plan was to start with 22 out of the 42 national associations in March.ENDS
