About 100 runners are expected to participate in the second cross country race hosted by Lefika Athletics Club in Kopong on Sunday.

The event will have six races; senior women and men 10km, junior men 8km, 6km junior women, 6km youth boys as well as 4km youth girls races.

Speaking in an interview, Lefika Athletic Club’s public relations officer, Collar Mosimakoko, said registration would be conducted at the venue on the day of the event from 7am at the cost of P20.

Since this was not the first event of the year, he said they expected athletes to have improved their fitness level, therefore run better times.

He indicated that this was an annual event, which most athletes used to qualify for the national cross country and his plea was for athletes to come in numbers and stand a chance to partake in the national event, which could then open doors for them to compete outside the country.

Mosimakoko highlighted that long time Botswana national athletes, Sesebo Matlapeng and Rapula Diphoko would be also competing on the day.

 “I can assure you that this is going to be a great event,” he added.

He further indicated that there would be a 4km fun run for everyone.

The spokesperson invited the general public to come in large numbers to enjoy the races and support the athletes, noting that all COVID-19 protocols would be observed.   BOPA
