Mochudi derby tomorrow

27 Jan 2022

All roads lead to Rovers Grounds in Mochudi on Saturday where traditional rivals; Mochudi Rovers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs meet in a Debswana First Division South game.

This derby encounter has always produced fireworks and it remains to be seen if tomorrow’s encounter will live to expectations.

In the past, the game between the two rivals attracted multitudes from all corners of Kgatleng, but following dismal performance and boardroom brawls, Centre Chiefs supporters might not attend in their usual numbers, or, given their grievances against the team’s management, might support a rival side.

Centre Chiefs, alias Magosi, have lost two consecutive games since the beginning of this year and the departure of their captain, Amogelang Reetsang to the rival side, has added an additional blow to the team.

While Centre Chiefs are a shadow of the fearful side that scooped everything on offer during their days in the premier league, Rovers have come across as a more disciplined and organised side.

The team, formed in 1963, has launched a Donate-A-Brick campaign aimed at developing their ground in Mochudi.

On paper, the two teams have had difficult start to the league and one would give them a draw.

However, boardroom squabbles and reports of unhappy players give Rovers an advantage.

The game is scheduled to start at 4pm and a huge crowd is expected given that it would be after the funeral of Bakgatla queen mother, Kathleen Kgafela, known as Mma Seingwaeng. ENDS
