UEFA seminar underway

A four-man delegation will be in Gaborone this weekend for a week-long UEFA Assist League Development Seminar.

UEFA assist development project manager, Bennett Mamelodi, said in an interview that the seminar would be phase four of five phases that commenced in October last year.

He said phase one dealt with a survey conducted amongst stakeholders such as clubs, coaches, players, fans, referees, media and sponsors.

Phase two, he said, dealt with the UEFA experts analysing data and statutory documents for both Botswana Football Association (BFA) and Botswana Football League (BFL).

Furthermore, Mamelodi said phase three was online interviews with the leadership of both the BFA and the BFL as well as staff to establish the situation obtaining on the ground.

He, however, said the experts would give feedback of all the three phases at the coming seminar.

He said the seminar would be attended by representatives of all BFL clubs as well as BFA executives and staff.

He said they would also touch on various topics such as governance, football development, financial management, brand and fan communication, match day operations, income generation as well as operational planning.

At the end of the seminar, he said, phase five shall kick in wherein objectives would be set and an action plan developed.

Meanwhile, according to BFA, Mamelodi’s core responsibility is to implement the 12 fields of action as contained in the FIFA Botswana Strategic Plan of June 2020.

The 12 points aimed at transforming football are new governance and business model, corporate identity, communication strategy, marketing strategy, broadcasting rights, sponsorship, technology, players, coaches and referees, fans, sustainable football, women football league and lastly, corporate social responsibly.
