BEPA calls for constitutional review
16 Jan 2022
Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association (BEPA) has voiced a need to review its constitution that has been in place since 2004 when the association was established.
The review will be conducted during its annual general meeting (AGM) slated for March in Gaborone.
Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association secretary general, David Abraham remarked during a consultative meeting, which held Thursday in Gaborone and attended by Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association members and stakeholders.
Abraham said the constitution did not address some of the challenges encountered by promoters nor did it meet the expectations of Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association members, hence the need for a review in order for it to remain relevant in the daily business of the association.
He said a draft of the new constitution would be availed to members and relevant stakeholders a month in advance to allow for any amendments before being presented at the AGM.
Abraham said a committee comprising Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association members would spearhead the exercise and a legal representative would also be consulted.
Aspects for consideration, he said, included establishment of an advisory council constitution to allow for affiliation to National Arts Council and other creative industry stakeholders and self-regulation of Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association members.
Another aspect, he said, was to allow the executive committee powers to appoint and engage a consultant to address issues of scouting venues for festivals.
Abraham emphasised the need for Botswana Entertainment Promoters Association members and stakeholders to work collectively towards the exercise, to enhance the image of the association and serve the interests of its members well. Ends
