Star studded Jwaneng Galaxy had a field day against Extension Gunners in a premier league fixture at Galaxy Stadium on Wednesday.
The hosts won the breathtaking encounter 4-1.
The opening minutes did not only bring a lot of excitement, but much intrigue with intensified search for goals by both sides.
In the 25th minute, Jwaneng Galaxy’s marksman, Thabang Sesinyi, came close to breaking the stalemate after hitting the cross bar with a header.
Gunners had a forced substitution in defence due to Desire Bafana’s injury.
And it was not surprising when Galaxy came with guns blazing in the second half.
Sesinyi snatched a goal in the 53rd minute after connecting well with right winger, Wendell Rudath upfront.
Minutes later, Wendell registered the second goal through a banana swerve after breaking through Gunners defenders that were left stunned and baffled.
Gunners’ hardworking player, Percy More, got a consolation goal for his side in the 65th minute through a beautiful header.
Olebogeng Malebye increased Galaxy’s tally in the 74th minute through a grass cutter.
Mpho Kgomo made it four in the dying minutes of the game.
In a post-match interview, Gunners coach Wame Mokokwe said they started well, but his charges failed to react on time, thus giving opponents room to play.
He said Desire substitution cost his boys as his experience destabilised opponents, noting if he was available it could have been a different story to tell.
He said his charges lacked aggression to break opponents defence, adding that after losing possession they were slow to recover.
Galaxy coach, Morena Ramoreboli, said his charges created more opportunities
He said in the first 45 minutes, they were creating a lot of opportunities, but were not scoring.
“This is how we have been playing,” he said.
He said second half’s performance was how they should have been playing and scoring goals, ‘but the unfortunate part has been always that one cannot buy luck, if luck is not there it is not there’.
Fortunately today, God in all the opportunities we created, we managed to score half of them.
The plan was to play in quarters in every 15 minutes.
“We wanted to get something. You can make plans but at the end of the day God decides what should happen,” he said.
He said they had a good game plan in which they wanted to stretch opponents more, play behind them, and it worked, adding that they also relied on territorial dominance. ENDS
