Gaosikelwe new SVM chairperson

12 Jan 2022

Former softball player, Gloria Gaosikelwe, has been appointed Botswana Sport Volunteers Movement (SVM) chairperson.

Gaosikelwe, who has represented the country well both as a player and an administrator, said in an interview that she was delighted that her efforts as a volunteer paid off as she transitioned to the volunteer’s movement top seat.

She said the appointment came at the right time after serving softball as a player as well as executive committee member of Botswana Softball Association and Zone V1 Softball Confederation.

Gaosikelwe vowed to continue where her predecessors left off citing the implementation of the SVM Policy that was reviewed in 2020 as well as aligning the organisation’s strategy to that of Botswana National Sport Commission.

“One of the things that I will do is to improve on stakeholder relations by making all federations aware of the existence of the volunteer movement. I have realised that sporting codes lack knowledge on both its existence and importance,” she said.

Having already set targets, Gaosikelwe said she would engage federations and sign memorandum of understanding with them in the first quarter of the year to set the ball rolling.

Her other assignment, she said, would be to increase on the already existing eight SVM regions across the country and to see which ones could be split to help in easy monitoring and coordination.

She is employed by Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development as principal electrical engineer and some of her achievement in sport are managing the women softball team at the World Championship in Caracas, Venezuela in 2010.

Her appointment is termed by many, as a step in the right direction, given that she already knows what it takes to be a volunteer. ENDS
