Gunners down Notwane

10 Jan 2022

Extension Gunners have continued their good run of form since head coach, Wame Mokoke, returned to the club.

The club registered a 1-0 victory over Notwane in Lobatse on Sunday afternoon.

The Lobatse giants have now won four of their seven Premier League matches under the young coach.

The victory moved them seven points clear of the relegation zone on position 11 with 12 points from 10 matches.

Notwane on one hand continued their indifferent form and are one point above the relegation zone after collecting a paltry six points from 11 matches.

The game started at slow pace with both teams failing to string passes together.

Gunners, however, took the lead in the 14th minute through Kabelo Babusi, who slotted home a loose ball after Notwane goalkeeper, Mabitso Rapowa, failed to clear a long ball into the penalty area.

After the goal, the two teams continued to huff and puff with players showing rustiness and failing to create meaningful scoring opportunities.

Gunners’ Dirang Moloi was unusually quiet while Pako Modikwa, Anderson Makolontwana and Babusi were off colour and failed to trouble the Notwane rearguard.

However, youngster Obusitswe Gabadise played with maturity in the defensive midfield position.

The Gunners attack started showing more life in the second half after Odirile Lekoba replaced Makolontwana.

Lekoba played with more inventiveness although he wasted an inviting opportunity to double the lead midway through the second half

The Gunners defence led by veterans Desire Bafana and Finkie Mothibi kept Notwane dangerman, Aobakwe Tshobo, quiet for the whole afternoon.

The lanky striker cut a frustrated figure as he failed to receive support from the likes of Tefo Galani, Raymond Israel and the usually creative Sthembile ‘Terry’ Mbuqe.

The only Notwane player who showed determination was midfielder Kudzanai Machadzani, who had a good game against his former team.

Gunners will hope to continue their winning formula when they take on Jwaneng Galaxy in their next match on Wednesday afternoon.

The match will kick off at 4pm at the Galaxy Stadium.

Notwane on the other hand will hope to collect maximum points when they take on the equally struggling Prisons XI on Wednesday afternoon in Lobatse.

The match will kick off at 4pm. ENDS
