Hour of reckoning arrives

09 Dec 2021

It shall be a spectacle to behold when Gaborone United (GU) and Masitaoka meet in the final of the Orange FA Cup season two at the National Stadium tomorrow.

When the clock hits 8:30pm, football fanatics shall put aside everything to watch what promises to be a scintillating encounter.

It goes without saying that this will be a battle of shrewd tacticians in GU’s Innocent Morapedi and Masiatoka’s Nelson Olebile.

Both gaffers have proved that they are a force to reckon with in Botswana football.

However, the one with better tactics on the day and mentally fit squad stands to lift the cup dubbed BophaSkelem.

And, the question in many minds is whether GU will live to its tradional  nickname, The Money Machine.

In yester-years, The Money Machine were untouchable in cup games.

Therefore, it will be suicidal to under-estimate them in a cup final.

GU registered a 3-0 victory against the resilient Jwaneng Galaxy in the semi finals.

On one hand, it remains to be seen if giant killers, Majatlhaga will stop The Money Machine.

Majatlhaga shocked the football fraternity when they eliminated the star-studded Township Rollers in the semi finals by a 2-1 score.

Majatlhaga players have confidence and faith that they they can win it for the fans, something that will make them fight to the end.

Both GU and Masitaoka will want to leave no stone unturned to pocket the P700 000 prize money.

Having reached a cup final in their debutant season in the elite league, Masitaoka are under pressure to prove their mettle.

To do so, the team has to close all the gaps to prevent GU’s deadly forwards from manoeuvring through.

In a defence marshalled by team captain Basiamisi Sebapalo and Keabetswe Obonetse, the Molepolole based side will not be a walkover.

However, the betting odds could slightly favour Gaborone United, buoyed by their ruthless league performance by far.

Defensively, Moyagoleele have been almost as watertight as their opponents.

Much of their effectiveness as a unit can be attributed to the experienced back four of Thato Kebue, Mothusi Johnson, Tshepo Maikano and Alford Velaphi. Ends
