Township Rollers coach part ways
08 Dec 2021
Township Rollers and head coach, Hassan Oktay, have parted ways.
A press release from Township Rollers says both parties have decided to part ways ‘amicably with immeditae effect’.
Consequently, Oarabile Seabo has been appointed interim head coach subject to approval by Botswana Football Association.
Seabo, according to the release, will be in charge of the team for a weekend away match against Sua Flamengos. The release says Township Rollers management is aware that before start of the season, it sold supporters a dream about starting a movement and building a team that will be competitive.
“We wish to assure you that we have every intention of keeping that promise. Happy days will return that is inescapable,” the release says. Oktay’s dismissal was speculated by some after Rollers lost 1-2 to Masitaoka in Orange FA Cup semi final over the weekend.
Another loss was on Tuesday when Mapalastina lost 0-2 against Orapa United.
Out of seven Botswana Premier League games played so far, Rollers won five games, drew one and lost one.
It has become apparent that Rollers do not condone losing two consecutive game, a culture which has seen them part ways some coaches. In the past four years, Rollers has fired six coaches. Nikola Kavazovic arrived in the country in 2017 and was shown the door the following year.
In 2018 they acquired the services of Rodolfo Zapata and he left in 2019. The same year, they hired Thomas Trucha who was fired in 2020. Hired Frank Nuttal in January 2020 and was shown the door after two months.
Rollers then returned Nikola Kavazovic still in 2020 then fired him this year, before hiring Oktay. ENDS
