Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) president, Gilbert Khunwane, has urged affiliates to consider reviewing the constitution for the association to run smoothly.

He told attendees of the association’s ordinary general meeting on Saturday that only amendments to the constitution would enable the executive committee to run the sport smoothly and address grievances.

The meeting was called off as only six clubs from 24 clubs affiliated to the association turned up for the meeting.

Khunwane said he was shocked to learn that the association had about 24 members, adding that only 10 clubs always turned up for inter club tournaments.

He said the absent clubs indicated their non-appearance at the eleventh hour and said he was worried about the state of affairs.

A few members who turned up shared the president’s sentiments and suggested instituting penalties for those who defaulted attending decision making meetings such as the OGM.

The meeting was to follow the association’s September elective annual general assembly that ushered into office the new committee led by Khunwane.

Khunwane was expected in his address to present to members updates on team Botswana’s participation at the Tokyo Olympic games, the new committee, AUSC region five youth team participation in Lesotho and the return to play local interclub tournaments.

Immediately after the meeting was called off, Khunwane and the association’s secretary general Taolo Tlouetsile attended the world boxing governing body AIBA’s Africa continental virtual forum.

In an interview on the sidelines of the meeting, Tlouetsile said BoBA as an affiliate attended the forum.

Tlouetsile said the African Boxing Confederation also made a presentation during the meeting.

He said of the 50 African member associations affiliated to AIBA only 24 were eligible to attend the virtual forum.

He said the AIBA legal team presented the constitutional changes that needed to be considered by all members.

Tlouetsile said the next meeting of AIBA was an elective congress penciled for December 12. Ends
