Mapantsula seek redemption
18 Nov 2021
Pressure is mounting on Extension Gunners after the team started the season on a wrong foot.
The Lobatse outfit is sunk at the bottom of Botswana Premier League log standings.
Therefore, Gunners aka Mapantsula, will be under strain to produce a positive result when they tackle BDF XI in Lobatse tomorrow afternoon at 4pm.
Gunners will be the visitors, despite the stadium being their home ground.
Mapantsula were unconvincing in their first three games against Township Rollers, Orapa United and Gaborone United.
They failed to score any goal and consequently, coach Molefe Motlhale was relieved of his duties.
Gunners management this week opted to give the reigns to youthful coach, Mogomotsi Mokoke.
Mokoke will need to coerce improved performances from his players if he wants to start his second stint at the team with victory.
Pound for pound, Gunners have good players who can compete with anyone. Its array of talent include the aggressive midfielder Mosimanegape Ntwaetsile, Letlhogonolo Mosala, Dirang Moloi, Thato Bolweleng and Pako Modikwa.
They have also reinforced their ranks with talented players such as goalkeeper, Tumiso Mashakola, defender Percy More, midfielders Lesego Lubinda and Kabo Rasuping as well as striker Lungisani Fanyana.
However, sixth placed BDF XI, under coach Letang Kgengwenyane, are not an easy team to beat.
They produced a resolute fight, despite eventually succumbing to a narrow 1-2 defeat to Township Rollers in their previous match.
Matebele’s attack has many enterprising players.
The ever reliable Keeagile Kobe, Thabo Metlhayotlhe, Godfrey Tauyatswala, Serati Semadi and Moatlhodi Ralesota would pile misery on Gunners if not tightly marked.
The league programme this weekend will start tonight at 7pm with an encounter between Morupule Wanderers and Mogoditshane Fighters in Serowe.
On Saturday, Notwane will be hunting for their second victory of the campaign when they welcome Gilport Lions at the National Stadium at 3:30pm.
Still on Saturday, log leaders Gaborone United will be looking to extend their perfect start to the campaign when they welcome Masitaoka to the Royal Aria Stadium at 4pm.
GU have won all their three matches without conceding a single goal.
Orapa United will welcome Prisons XI to Itekeng Stadium, while Sowa Town will host a top flight match for the first time ever when Sua Flamingoes welcome struggling Mahalapye Railway Highlanders to the Sua Council Stadium.
On Sunday, second placed Township Rollers host Security Systems at the National Stadium, while defending champions Jwaneng Galaxy visit Police XI at Otse Police College Stadium.
