Partnership between Wecho Trust and North West District Council (NWDC) is expected to develop sports at Kareng Rural Area Dwellers (RADS) Hostel.
The two signed a three-year Memorandum of Agreement in Maun on Tuesday.
The deal will see the introduction of volleyball, table tennis, boxing and judo as well as development of fields for football and netball.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, NWDC chairperson, Kebareeditse Ntsogotho, thanked Wecho Trust for selecting NWDC for the project that would help 212 pupils residing at Kareng hostels, 25 kilometres from Sehithwa.
NWDC secretary, Motlogelwa Thuso, said the project would also address boredom among pupils.
Wecho Trust board of trustees’ Tsoseletso Magang said the trust was formed by two trustees being herself and Game Mothibe, both of whom have vast experience in sport as former players and having held various administration positions in sport.
Wecho, which means ours in Shikgalahari, aims to do community service through sports.
“We also realised many challenges that mainly affect women, youth and girl children in sport.
We want to motivate them to be involved in sport by forming clubs or academies,” she said.
She said the project would motivate pupils to be sporting icons and excel in other areas.
For her part, Mothibi said the partnership would focus not only on sport, but social and life skills as well.
“We will have dialogues that will be made fun for pupils to look forward to their hostel lives,” she said.
Wecho Trust, she said, enjoyed support from A-Goal Trust from Japan and Akheel Jinabhai and Associates.
The trust has also partnered with different sport associations in the country.
Meanwhile, Wecho Trust and NWDC will host Kareng hostel sport festival on Saturday.
Jinabhai, also judo coach, is expected to grace the occasion. ENDS
