Sunday football platform for men to talk GBV

Men have been challenged to use Sunday soccer to engage on issues related to gender based violence (GBV).
It is for this reason that gender affairs department in Francistown organised a football tourney on Sunday as part of the efforts to encourage men to take lead in the fight against GBV and to celebrate International Men’s Day, which falls on November 19 every year.
Senior gender affairs officer, Kabelo Tsiang, said Sunday soccer should not be just about playing football but to give guidance and to build male role models.
“Men are often troubled by relationships, finances and mental health.
These are the challenges Sunday soccer teams should try to address and they have to be seen playing a major role in moulding the members,” he added.
Tsiang said Sunday soccer teams had influence on men, therefore the right platform to build a free society from abuse and social ills.
Tsiang further said men must be seen as responsible societal unit with the responsibility of building the society.
One of the men who attended the event, Olatetse Mojaki, said football had a great influence in moulding men to become responsible citizens.
Four Francistown based social teams; Yarona social Club, Legends Social Club, Gunners Supporter’s social club and Moriti-Wa-Setlhare Social club took part in the tournament that saw Legends beating Gunners 2-1 in the final. ENDS
