Tournament fails to produce winner

08 Nov 2021

Lack of flood lights at the Francistown old stadium hindered Bola ku Batho tournament organisers from crowning a winner on Saturday.
This ensued after Calendar Stars and Matebele Football Club played to a one-all draw in the finals and had to go for extra time to decide the day’s winner.

The tournament featured Tafic, Matebele, Calendar Stars and Nico United.

Though the Oodi-based Matebele had an upper hand against Calendar Stars, the two teams went to recess with a 1-1 all draw. The second half did not produce any goal.

Matebele continued to dominate the game with telling crosses and shots at target, but Calendar Stars goalkeeper frustrated their efforts.

At some point, Bonno Mosea of Matebele was denied a goal in what referee Moemedi Thabologang judged as an off-side.

Mosea had received a cross and easily headed the ball into the net.

The game saw referee Thabologang issuing three yellow cards against Matebele players for rough tackling and further two red cards against Kago Kaizer of Calendar Stars and Ramo Kgamanyane of Matebele.

The two red cards followed a confrontation between the two players in the 85th minute.

Calendar Stars faced Matebele in the final after defeating Tafic 3-1 whilst Calendar Stars walloped Nico United 1-0.

In the losers’ final, Nico beat Tafic 2-1, courtesy of Thabang Makunyundi and Kabo Oletile who scored the first and second goals respectively. ENDS
