Orange FA Cup resumes

07 Nov 2021

The Orange FA Cup will resume on Friday after pausing due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Speaking during a press conference in Gaborone on Friday, Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Goabaone Taylor, said the tournament swould continue from where it was stopped in March.

Orange Botswana chief marketing officer (CMO), Yves Famien indicated that football built communities and an unfettered desire to succeed.

He explained that the tournament attracted interest because it afforded lower division teams an opportunity to lock horns with those in the elite league.

“We have seen the underdogs beating the giants, which brought fun and excitement to football lovers,” he added.

Famien applauded all those who contributed to the preparations of the resumption of Orange FA Cup quarterfinals.

“Your efforts do not go unnoticed,” he said.

He said BFA would continue to guide how to safely return to the fields.

For his part, BFA’s regional coordinator and competitions manager, Setete Phuthego, said Jwaneng Galaxy and Notwane would open the quarter finals in Lobatse on Friday at 8pm.

On November 13, Calendar Stars would lock horns with Masitaoka at Francistown City Council Stadium at 3:30pm, while Police X1 would at the same time be facing Gaborone United at Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng.

Phuthego further said Township Rollers would be up against BR Highlanders at Royal Aria Stadium on November 14 at 3:30pm.

The competitions manager said their intention was that three games from the four be broadcasted live on national television, but noted that the Francistown one would not be televised.

He indicated that as per health protocols the stadium capacity would still be at 50 per cent, adding that all those wishing to get into stadiums should have either taken the first vaccination or completed.

Phuthego said those who had not vaccinated were expected to bring COVID-19 test, having tested negative within 48 hours. ENDS
