Molebatsi ensures Rollers victory

07 Nov 2021

Tlhalefo Molebatsi’s late goal handed Township Rollers a 1-0 triumph over Jwaneng Galaxy in a Botswana Premier League encounter in Gaborone on Saturday.

Galaxy supporters expected the team to continue its good form following an impressive CAF champion’s league campaign and a 4-2  victory against Gilport Lions in a league opener.

However, Rollers too were on high spirit having put two against Extension Gunners in their previous game and were also hoping to unleash Rwanda international, Jean Betrand Iradukunda.

With both teams flaunting stars in their line up, it came as no surprise that the match was evenly poised until the 78th minute when Molebatsi broke the stalemate much to the jubilance of Rollers diehards.

Galaxy at some point had the ball in the net, but debutant Wendell Rudath had his goal celebration short-lived after he was judged to have handled the ball before converting.

The Jwaneng side, nonetheless, looked considerably brighter after going a goal down, pressing with more purpose and attacking with more direction, but Rollers defence led by Mosha Gaolaolwe and Simisane

Mathumo proved a hard nit to crack. The Rollers centre back pair had been rock solid and yet to consider a goal this season.

Meanwhile, both sides had observed a moment of silence prior to kick-off in remembrance of the deceased Zebras kit manager, Dintwa Ramontsho.

In other league games played on Saturday, Security Systems and BDF XI played to a two-all draw while Gaborone United won 4-0 against Mahalapye Railways Highlanders.

Extension Gunners woes continued as they lost 0-2 to Orapa United, Police XI won 2-0 agaisnt Notwane FC while Masitaoka beat Morupule Wanderers 2-1. ENDS
