Botsang Tshenyego has retained Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) presidency.
Tshenyego beat Ookeditse Malesu and Tirelo Mukokomani by five and four votes respectively during the organisation’s elective general assembly in Gaborone on Saturday.
For the position of senior vice president, Tshepo Sitale, had a field day against former Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) president, Thari Mooketsi winning with 20 votes against four.
A fierce battle for BNOC first vice president had pitted Michael Moroka against Patrick Moesi, but Moroka emerged victorious by 14-11.
Boineelo Hardy is the new BNOC second vice president after beating Tiny Kgatlwane with 19 votes against four.
The three positions of additional members went to Yarona Sharp who was elected by 19 delegates followed by Tebogo Segaise and Unaswi Matebu who were voted by 14 delegates each.
Tshenyego said he was happy that affiliates had shown confidence in him by entrusting him with another four years.
He said it was a motion of confidence in him, adding that affiliates believed that he had what it took to lead them again.
“I believe that every president and secretary general should be given a second chance provided they demonstrate that in their first term,” he said.
He said he was happy that out of seven positions up for grabs, four positions were won by women for the first time.
He said it was a positive development and that it should be reflected in different sporting structures.
Tshenyego said even those who lost were winners, adding that he was confident that they had what it takes to add value. ENDS
