DTCB sponsors women football

03 Nov 2021

Women football has found a new love in Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB).

The company will sponsor women’s league and grassroots development with over P2 million for three years.

The last time the women’s league had a sponsor was in 2016, when they were sponsored by AT and T.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare, said women needed a fair chance in sport.

He said women should be developed and encouraged to run with their dreams

“I can assure you that with the P2 million that you are ploughing into women football, you are planting a seed from which we will handsomely reap,” he said.

Minister Rakgare said DTCB had shown commitment to development of women dreams and inspiring enthusiasm around women football.

He said, DTCB like any other entity, had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that he was happy that they found it befitting to use the meagre resources they had to boost women football.

Furthermore, he said many young girls were now making a living out of football, therefore it was critical to catch them young so that they could make a fortune and legacy for themselves in the global stage.DTCB managing director, Sedireng Serumola, said his organisation had taken a deliberate step in its journey towards becoming a more inclusive and diverse organisation.

This, he said, was demonstrated by DTCB having achieved gender parity at executive committee level.

He said supporting a culture of equality, diversity and inclusivity was also a national priority.

DTCB, Serumola said, took a decision to sponsor both the women football league and grassroots football training programme in primary schools in all the 17 BFA regions.

BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said the DTCB sponsorship was a huge milestone for the development of the women’s football.

He expressed hope that through the sponsorship, the BFA would be able to partake in an aggressive programme of women football development starting from the grassroots up to the elite level. ENDS
