Consumer and Competition Authority (CCA) has appealed to consumers to return KOO products to the stores where they were purchased from, with or without receipts.

A press release from CCA says this follows  communication from Tiger Brands, the manufacturers/distributors of canned vegetable products  (KOO canned  vegetables, Hugo baked beans and Helderberg Peas).

A defect was observed on some cans bearing KOO product codes.

The releases says the local distributor of the products (CA Sales) estimates the quantity of the products that are already in the Botswana market to be in the region of 60 000 units.

It states that the products are available in most  chain stores and general dealers.

Further, it says that the CCA, which is the primary consumer protection agency, is empowered to disclose to the public any information that makes  goods unsafe.

The authority could also direct the supplier to replace the goods or refund any consumer who bought the unsafe goods or compensate the consumer for any damage suffered by the consumer in using the unsafe goods at an amount determined by the Authority says the release.  

Although industry information is that the defective cans do not pose any health hazard to consumers, the CCA awaits determination from the Health Authorities on the potential health hazard of the recalled products.
