04 Jul 2021

The belief that being present in one’s children’s lives and displaying love is one of the most important and valuable gift a parent could give has reportedly inspired a mother and daughter pair to publish books to address these issues.

Mmapula Moatswi, the author of a book titled: Upbringing of a teenager in the 21st Century said she felt the urge to bring forth her perspective through writing, while her daughter Natasha Moatswi also wrote a book Struggles of a teenager in the 21st century.

During a recent launch of the two books in Gaborone, Mmapula said the success of their journey, was a reflection of the relationship she had with her teenage children.

She said good parenting skills, especially for teenagers, was very crucial, adding that her success in raising three teenagers was reflected in the book, whose penning started during last year’s national lockdown.

Mmapula, who is a teacher by profession, said as her daughter Natasha, 18, had started writing a book for teenagers,  and she decided to also write something that they would inspire parents.

She said she believed that the book would help parents do much better in raising teenagers.

She said her teaching career, which started in Serowe more than 20 years ago, had also exposed her to what teenagers go through, hence the book, which covers the do’s and don’ts to successful parenting.

For her part, Natasha explained that after realising that many learners were inspired by her upbringing, she decided to write a guideline book for teenagers, which could also help parents understand most things their children go through.

The Managing Director of Poetic Blood Publishers, Lame Pusetso said the journey to publishing the two books made her realise that it was purposed by God.

She said Natasha’s mother took pride in supporting her children and seeing to it that it happens according to their desires.

Pusetso said Natasha’s book reminded parents that emotional stability could birth something great, if provided from an early stage.

She urged Africans to keep writing their history exactly how they would love it to be remembered. ENDS
