The trio of Gilbert Magosi, Kitso Maoto and Thabo Nthebolang, who go by the stage name Makuvuki BW, has dropped their debut 17-track Afro House album titled: Monateng EP Volume 1.
The album was recorded at House of Pain studios in South Africa and was locally produced by Lazarus Mangena, also known as Mr Romeo in music circles, Lesego Fernando, Anthony Mogomela, and Ben Amogelang.
In an interview on Tuesday, Maoto said the album was a follow up of numerous singles they released in 2019, saying the positive feedback they received gave them confidence that they were on the right track, hence the album.
He said through the album, they intended to bring out messages to sway the youth to lead positive lives. “Most of the youth are fond of entertainment, particularly music and on the other hand, societal perception has it that some are reckless with their lives, as such we came up with an entertainment concept that will encourage positive vibes,” he said.
He said their music had also become their means to make ends meet and though the pandemic had threatened the industry, they relied on social media to keep going.
Maoto said they debuted in the music industry in 2010 as dancers at different social gatherings on a voluntary basis, they also competed in My African Dream and they never looked back.
He attributes their stay in the music industry to determination and commitment, adding, ‘we have been thrown from pillar to post, especially on recording deals, but we never gave up.
Maoto said they were currently signed to Executive Music and Management, which had roots in Gaborone and New York City, adding that he was hopeful that the deal would help them spread their music internationally.
He further said they desired to build a platform to groom and help upcoming artistes to fully unleash their potential. ENDS
