Russia calls for cooperation
07 Feb 2021
The international community must create conditions for cooperation between scientists and other specialists to understand how and why coronavirus mutations occur, the Russian embassy has said.
Quoting Russia president, Mr Vladimir Putin, the embassy says it is also imperative to understand the difference between the various strains, saying there should be cooperation in studying and countering the coronavirus infection.
The statement further says it is essential to coordinate the efforts of the world in countering the spread of the virus and making the much needed vaccines more accessible.
“We need to help the countries that need support, including the African nations,” the statement further reads.
Coronavirus pandemic, the statement says, has exacerbated the imbalances in global socioeconomic development, adding that in the last year, the global economy sustained its biggest decline since WWII.
It expresses hopes that it would be possible to reboot the old growth model connected with rapid technological development, noting that during the past 20 years a foundation was created for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the coronavirus pandemic has greatly accelerated the use of artificial intelligence, automation and robotics.
“This means that very many people could lose their jobs unless the state takes effective measures to prevent this. Most of these people are from the so-called middle class, which is the basis of any modern society,” it stated. The statement further called for proper coordination in resolving global warming, the reduction of forestlands, loss of biodiversity, the increase in waste and the pollution of the oceans with plastic.
