WUC warns public as dams overflow

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has cautioned the public to be alert around Shashe, Letsibogo, Ntimbale and Nywane dams, which have reached their full capacity levels. A press release from WUC states that this present good news as the nation relies on rainfall for sustained water supply. Since these dams are over spilling into the downstream rivers, the corporation warns the public to be on high alert around these dams and downstream since already some lives had been lost following the over flooding rivers. The Shashe dam is standing at 100.6 percent enough to supply greater Francistown for 23 months without inflow, Gaborone Dam is at 52.6 percent and can supply for 19 months without inflow.

The release further states that Dikgatlhong Dam is at 102.5 percent and enough to supply Greater Gaborone, Mahalapye and Palapye for 24 months without inflow while Molatedi Dam South Africa, which is supplying WUC is at 13.9 percent enough to supply Greater Gaborone for 24 months without inflow.

Letsibogo Dam is at 100 percent enough to supply Greater Selebi Phikwe, BCL and Mmadinare for 23 months without inflow, Ntimbale is at 103.9 enough to supply North East and

Tutume Sub-District for 15 months without rains.

On other dams, Gaborone dam water level has increased by two percent while Thune and Lotsane dam water levels remain the same. Ends
