Match me to help singletons find love

17 Nov 2020

General health practitioner at MEDEXO Private Clinic in Gaborone, Dr Thusang Gure has established a local dating platform named Match Me Dr Gure.

In an interview, Dr Gure who also offers marriage counselling and mentors couples, said the purpose of the platform was to help singletons search for love partners and settle for marriage and establish families.

Dr Gure said both the youth and elders had shown keen interest to make use of the platform. Though it was established last month, he said more than 300 people had submitted their profiles and so far 20 couples were successfully matched.

He said those who were matched underwent counselling and their progress was monitored on a monthly basis for mentoring and more counselling should the need arise.

Dr Gure noted that the platform did not cater for any specific class rather they accept any legible profile.

He further noted challenges of less number of profiles from men, saying some contributing factors was that some seem skeptical about it.

Meanwhile, he noted that Match Me Dr Gure was not a new concept saying it was similar to the traditional practice of arranged marriages.

He said in the past, individual’s parents or elder family members had to screen and find a prospective mate for further consideration through their social circles.“Culturally, elders believed in arranged marriages, they would set up their children considering the family background, the behavior and personality of the desired child and that was morally accepted,” he said.

He however said Match Me Dr Gure was modernised and incorporated other criteria that encouraged authenticity.

Dr Gure noted that it had come to his attention that some people still struggle to meet partners that meet their expectations and this has forced some to resort to online dating.

“While online dating has become one of the preferred modes of dating, it is unfortunate that some websites are not authentic and this resulted in some people being cat fished,” he said.He said through Match me Dr Gure couples were matched according to their preferences and requests and those to be matched submitted their profile electronically and interviews were conducted to authenticate the information submitted.

Dr Gure said when they match couples, they assess their personality and general upbringing of individuals saying issues of sex and love language were also considered.

“A family is the immediate institution that groomed individuals, if one was brought up in a loving and caring or an abusive environment, it was easy to follow the pattern when they grew up,” he said.

Dr Gure emphasised the need for people to have same vison board so that they would be able to fill each other’s love tank.

Dr Gure said ‘in most cases people just settle for an affair and overlook these aspects yet they contribute to the success of a relationship’. Ends
