Trevor Mabua has released his 3rd afro jazz album titled Who is Trevor Mabua?
In an interview on Monday November 2, Mabua said the title of the album intended to explain who he was and the message he wanted to share with his audience, particularly on gender based violence (GBV) and other social ills.
The 15-track album is a follow up of the single titled O kgona jang which he released early to create hype for the entire album.
He said 14 of the tracks were recorded and produced by Alfred Kavezedi at Hall of Fame studios in Mahalapye, while O kgona jang was recorded and produced by Tumelo Mafoko at Zolasco Records in Gaborone.
Trevor said as GBV and other social ills continued to ravage the country, there was need to speak out and raise awareness about the matters.
He said he chose to relay his messages through music because it had staying power; as one could listen to it, put it away and go back after sometime and still relate to the message.
Mabua also noted that he believed that relaying messages about sensitive issues should not only be done under formal atmosphere, with people being told the dos and don’ts, but there should be room for interaction.
He further said music had a healing effect that penetrated into souls in different ways, adding that through his music, he intended to encourage families to relate well. “Some of the GBV cases happen because of unstable relationships within families,” he said.
He said track five, Go goleng ga aka, tells a story of a boy who was taken away from his family to work in the farms at a tender age and when he returned, after some years, he learnt that his mother had long passed on, and that all her belonging had been shared among family members, with no one bothering to inform him, though they knew his whereabouts
He further said track 13, Abuti, intended to counsel those who were battling with financial, marital and other social challenges, to find the courage to open up and deal with their challenges instead of committing suicide.
Meanwhile, he revealed that he had been in the music industry since 2014 and had managed to push and currently had three albums under his belt.
Recently, he went beyond music circles and engaged on a mission to raise funds for a nine-year-old, who was supposed to go for medical treatment in India.
However, he had managed to do so as festivals and other social gatherings were currently suspended. ENDS
