Ministries electrify schools
03 Sep 2013
The ministries of education and skills development (MoESD), local government and rural development, as well as minerals, energy and water resources (MEWR) have joined forces to electrify nine primary schools in the Mahalapye Sub-district.
This was revealed by chairperson of Mahalapye sub-council Mr Moatshe Senai on September 2. He said the nine primary schools did not have electricity even though their villages were electrified.
The targeted schools are Mmaphashalala, Kodibeleng, Kudimatse, Tirelo, Mmutlane, Mosolotshane, Bonwapitse, Ngwapa and Moshopha Primary Schools. Mr Senai also stated that 23 teachers’ houses had been connected to the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) grid and powered.
Thirteen houses were at Kudumatse while 10 were in Mmutlane. Mr. Senai said more funds were needed for reticulation of electricity inside the schools and wiring of houses, but revealed that additional funds had been requested for the remaining works.
Mr Senai also revealed that out of 615 kilometers of gravel road in the sub-district, 218 kilometers had been graded. However, he said, the project was behind schedule due to constant grader break down and failure to hire an additional grader operator.
Mr Senai told the council that the sub-district was continuously improving infrastructure, saying 100 metres of storm water lining was constructed in Mahalapye and Shoshong by the in-house crew.
He added that 52 road signs were installed in Tumasera, Seleka, Borotsi, Ramokgonami, Maape, Makwate, Machaneng, Sefhare, Pilikwe, and Chadibe. Mr Senai also informed the house that the tender for paving of A1 islands and installation of 200 roads studs in Mahalapye has been awarded. ENDS
