There were fewer fashion hits than misses as Members of Parliament adorned the State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) red carpet on November 18.

The legislators, along with their spouses, seemingly toned down this time around, but not MP for Maun West, also Leader of Opposition, Dumelang Saleshando’s wife Dineo, who came clad in a floor length glitter embellished dress.

Selibe Phikwe West MP, Dithapelo Keorapetse and wife complimented each other’s outfits in colour, with the wife wearing a chic peach dress with petal design shoulder details.

Also turning heads was spouse to Gaborone South MP and Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Dumezweni Mthimkhulu. She wore a floor long green dress, exposing one shoulder, complimenting her husband’s tie.

Gaborone Bonnington North legislator, Annah Mokgethi did it for the lady legislators with her blush gold dress, accessorised with a blush clutch.

Many dignitaries were clad in bold and bright colours, African inspired outfits as well as florals.

The male legislators, donned their well-tailored bold coloured suits, matching ties, shoes and belts.

As one of the young designers Thabiso Dibeela notably indicated, ‘the future of fashion in our country is taking shape.’

It can only be hoped that the next SONA will have more hits on the red carpet, with daring and dashing outfits from both legislators and their spouses as well as invited dignitaries. Ends
