Miss Ramotswa Project growing despite challenges

12 Nov 2019

The annual Miss Ramotswa pageant is said to be growing amid financial constraints, says the coordinator of Miss Ramotswa Project, Olorato Thobega.

In an interview recently, the coordinator said this year, the pageant finals would held at Fishers Gardens in the outskirts of Ramotswa on  December 21.

Last year, about 14 girls participated in the competition and 20 young girls have already registered for this year’s competition.

“I have observed that Miss Ramotswa has potential to become one of the biggest pageants nationally, as it does not only attract ladies from Ramotswa but from other places,” she added.

The project coordinator stated that they were expecting the number of participants to increase as registration closes on November 8 to prepare for the finals.

She stated that rapid increase in the figures was evidence that the competition is slowly growing and appealing to young ladies.

Thobega said after the closing of the registration, the young ladies would attend a boot camp training session where they would come across motivational speakers and life skill coaches to empower them.

The annual Miss Ramotswa pageant’s queen is tasked with some of community projects in the district. “However, the beauty queen has been having limited limelight as some authorities in the village seem not to be recognising the pageant, hence fail to engage her on their activities and other district events,”  Thobega said.

Nonetheless, the reigning queen Matshelo Matome managed to do some projects such as school motivational talks in junior schools while other activities were hampered by lack of funding.

She explained that they were in need of both morale and financial support from the community, adding that organisations and companies should come on board to unearth talent.

“We are hopeful that Balete will support us as they always do,” added Thobega.

Going forward, Thobega said they would continue to lure businesses to their side to make the project a success story.

“Our wish is to have our queen being able to participate at the national level competitions to represent Ramotswa, with the organisation sponsoring her,” she stated. ENDS
