IEC UPDATE AT 8AM
23 Oct 2019
Voting is reported to have started well across the country. Giving an update on the progress of the general election in Gaborone this morning, Independent Electoral Commission Principal Public Relations Officer, Mr Osupile Maroba said so far quite a number of polling stations were experiencing a large turnout.
He however said a bit of challenge was in the wards where they had introduced the streaming system to help manage time.
He said streaming was new and was bound to have some challenges as it appeared that voters were not familiar with it, thereby resulting in some confusion.
Explaining the streaming system, Mr Maroba said if the number of voters in a ward was more than 1000 , voters would be divided into a manageable number and the desk officer would direct voters to their respective mini-stations within the polling stations, as allocated in a voters roll
Mr Maroba said the system was used in wards that had more than 1000 voters, in an effort to reduce long queues.
He said polling officers were working hard to rectify the confusion. BOPA
