21 Oct 2019
Maun residents have been urged to vote Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) back into power to secure their future.
Addressing a star rally in Maun East constituency on Saturday, Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane implored residents to vote in large numbers during the coming general elections.
He said BDP had done a lot to improve the lives of Batswana through different government programmes which had changed their lives for good.
In addition, he said the current leadership had good ideas aimed at transforming the country’s economy to bring sustainable developments.
He pleaded with Batswana to give President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi another chance to lead the country.
He stated that President Masisi had laid a solid foundation as he had revived the consultation system, made efforts to ensure the communities benefitted from natural resources and tourism sector.
Mr Tsogwane said under President Masisi leadership, they had managed to change 57 laws, citing land reforms aimed to benefit communities from their land.
In addition, he said they wanted people to benefit from indigenous knowledge and also stimulate the economy to create more employment opportunities.
He cited the recent launch of ‘Smart Green’ Botswana Makeathon 2019 at the University of Botswana, which aimed to explore ideas for Smart Green technologies that set new standards in time and cost efficiencies in international markets.
Through the initiative, he revealed that students from the University of Botswana in the technical and engineering disciplines built an electric car.
Mr Tsogwane said the BDP was realistic whereas the opposition parties made empty promise, which he urged voters to shun.
He urged democrats to vote the BDP parliamentary aspirants for Maun East and West, Mr Kostantinos Markus and Mr Reaboka Mbulawa respectively because they were visionary leaders and would be able to work easily with them.
He said Mr Markus had proved his leadership capabilities at Parliament hence he was appointed the Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security while Mr Mbulawa proved his capabilities during his tenure as the North West District Council chairperson.
Voters were encouraged to rally behind the duo as they were the calibre of leaders needed in Parliament to help Botswana achieve more and bring change in the lives of Batswana.
The BDP veteran, Mr Patrick Balopi urged voters to vote in large numbers for the party to win the October 23 general elections.
He said politics was a game of numbers thus urged every BDP member to cast a vote for the party.
BDP, he said was the only party they could entrust with the future of the nation.
Mr Balopi said he was disappointed by the words uttered by the leader of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) recently on televised Presidential debates.
He said such words undermined former leaders and urged Batswana to shy away from people who had no respect for others.
Parliamentary candidate for Maun West, Mr Mbulawa said the opposition parties should not be trusted because they were they not ready to lead whereas BDP was well prepared to govern.
He urged residents to vote him in the coming general elections as he was the best candidate to represent.
For his part, Mr Markus said his party always had the best interests of Batswana at heart and urged voters to rally behind it.
He mentioned that BDP cared about the nation as it had done a lot, citing the introduction of the P10 million constituency funding for small developmental projects which often lagged behind in villages and yet feasible to undertake.
Through the funding, he said they had managed to drill more boreholes in settlements to ensure residents have access to potable clean water. ENDS
