Captive Eye Organisation (CAP) and Botswana Pantsula Association have embarked on a campaign to raise funds for less privileged girl children in schools.
The campaign, named City 2 City Endurance Ride, which seeks to collect sanitary pads and other toiletries, will start in Francistown on Saturday with a music festival where sanitary pads would be used as a ticket to get in.
The campaign will end in Gaborone on November 2.
In an interview, CAP chairperson, Mr Percy Mothibi said the campaign would be followed by kgotla meetings in villages along the A1 road such as Tonota,
Serule, Palapye, Mahalapye, Artesia and Mochudi where they would distribute sanitary pads to female pupils in secondary schools.
He said the campaign was dubbed City 2 City Endurance Ride because they had noted an overwhelming use of illicit drugs, criminal activities as well as disruptive behavioural disorder among communities in both the country’s major cities.
On the other hand, Botswana Pantsula Association chairperson, Mr Peter Modise added that there would be a parade led by the town clerk as their chief walker. He said he would lead them to an open space where they would have an outreach event.
He also said there would be motivational talks from different stakeholders who would showcase and sell their services.
The aim of the campaign, he said, was to sensitise the nation about drugs and HIV/AIDS.
He added that their plan was also to combat the ever-dynamic challenges faced by pupils, youth and the nation. ENDS
