Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has vowed to bring change in the socio-economic landscape of the Lerala/Maunatlala constituency.

Launching UDC prospective parliamentary and prospective council candidates for Lerala/Maunatlala, Molepolole South prospective parliamentary candidate, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli urged constituents to vote for the party’s representative, Mr Kabo Ketshogile and the council hopefuls.

Dr Mmatli described Mr Ketshogile as the rightful person to advocate for the constituency’s developments.

He noted that the UDC candidate would drive the party’s manifesto and bring change to Lerala/Maunatlala.

He noted that as contained in the party’s manifesto, when in power, the UDC would increase old age pension to P1 500 to give pensioners a decent life, adding that the party would also introduce a P3 000 living wage.

Dr Mmatli further indicated that Mr Ketshogile would advocate for the setting up of a water drainage system to avoid flooding of homes during rainy seasons.

Another speaker, Mr Mpho Moruti called on voters to rally behind the UDC on October 23 and urged them to give it the mandate to rule the country.

Lerala-Maunatlala constituency is rich in history, culture and mineral resources, Mr Moruti said, adding that historical sites could be utilised for tourism purposes, thereby creating employment for Batswana.

Furthermore, he noted that there was need to set up a leather industry, particularly that Botswana was blessed with many cattle.

Lerala, he added, could produce leather products such as belts and shoes from the ides and ultimately create employment for locals and Batswana in general.

He said more than 20 000 jobs could be created from such an industry, including the diamond industry, hence the need to vote for the UDC undertake the project.

Mr Moruti also promised the electorate that when in power, UDC would create 100 000 jobs in a year. For his part, the UDC prospective parliamentary candidate for Mmadinare, Mr Mpho Bagwasi urged Lerala/Maunatlala constituents to vote for the UDC.

Mr Bagwasi said as the area councillor, Mr Ketshogile contributed positively for Lerala developments, hence the need to vote for him to Parliament, where he would advocate for the construction of Lerala hospital, police offices, teachers and other civil servants’ houses.

Meanwhile, Mr Ketshogile stated that he had been a councillor for Lerala for 10 years, as such  he was familiar with issues affecting residents as well as developments required in the constituency.

He said he had decided to contest for the parliamentary seat so that he could make a meaningful impact at a higher level.

He called on Lerala /Maunatlala electorate to vote for him and his party in the coming general elections for the realisation of developments in the area.

Mr Ketshogile will be contesting for the seat with the former area MP and now an independent candidate, Mr Prince Maele and Mr Sethabelo Modukanele of the Botswana Democratic Party. Ends
