29 Aug 2019

Francistown mayor, Ms Sylvia Muzila says the council’s vision is to ensure that Francistown becomes the city of vibrancy by the year 2022.

Addressing an Extra Ordinary Full Council meeting recently, Ms Muzila said the dream could only be achieved through attracting the private sector to invest in the city.

In this regard, she said over the period, the council had initiated some investment opportunities for the private sector and at the same time creating some sources of revenue for the council.

She said some of the opportunities created was the council abattoir from which the council was receiving an income of more than P15 000 per month, which would escalate at eight per cent annually for 25 years.

The mayor said the Old Tatitown Primary School contract was also signed on July 23 this year at a lease amount of P55 000 per month with an eight per cent escalation for the period of 25 years.

She said the lessee intended to construct a private primary and secondary schools, hospitality college and a hotel as an ancillary to compliment the training.

“Parking strategy within the Central Business District contract was signed on July 26 this year, at a lease amount of P60 000 per month and at an escalation of eight per cent per year,” she said.

Ms Muzila noted that the lease contract for Plots 15076 and 31946,  known as Mummies was signed on July 26 this year at P27 255 per month also with an escalation of eight per cent annually for 25 years.

She said four companies had expressed interest in central market and had all proceeded to the next stage of submitting their proposals.

She also told the council that there were about 14 ablutions leased out to two private companies and 12 Ward Development Committees (WDCs), adding that the ablution located along Haskins Street was leased out at P2 500 per month for a period of two years, while those at the bus rank were leased at P40 125 per month for a period of two years.

She said the WDCs are for Monarch East, Monarch West, Bluetown, Cheduchoga, Kgaphamadi, Central Market, Area L, Boikhutso, Area W, Block 2, Block 8 and Satellite.

Furthermore, she said that upon realisation and assurance that Farm NQ 91 is a council assert, they found it paramount for those who had not seen the facility to visit it and come up with proposals for its use.

She observed that construction of the P1.9 million Tatitown Customary Court is at 80 per cent completion and it was expected to be completed by end of year. Ends
