Botswana DJs attend Durban imbizo
28 Aug 2019
Four local disk jockeys (DJs) are set to showcase their craft in Durban as part of the annual Music Imbizo conference.
The music Imbizo held in Durban, commenced on Wednesday and has attracted entertainment facilitators from different countries.
The quartet made up of Dj Anthem, Tefo Foxx, Shivers and Mario left the country for the home of Gqom music on August 27 and are scheduled to perform at ‘Views At 25’ today.
The quartet will have three other performers at some venues yet to be announced.
The Durban trip facilitator and also Botswana International Music Conference (BIMC) convener, Seabelo Modibe said they sponsored the whole trip for the DJs, as part of their three year agreement with the Music Imbizo coordinators.
“This is an initiative to expose the artists to producers from other countries and get the artistes to understand all the components that affects their trade, from management, publishers and their administration circle,”
Modibe attributed artistes’ failure to absence of managers or publishers, which is an essential component in thriving music industry.
“Therefore we have partnered with The Music Imbizo to enhance our know-how while creating opportunities for local talent. The Imbizo is an international music business conference with over 120 speakers from 30 countries and it provides a space to network, exhibit and have some face time with key players in the music industry.”
Accompanying the turntable masters, Modibe announced, were two observers whose role was to benchmark from other countries on how they manage their artistes.
The observers are Phempheretlhe Pheto of Lekunutu le Morena fame who was going to benchmark on the preparations and organisation of Gospel awards and Ortell Phillimon who is an artist administrator.
Attendance of the annual BIMC, their activeness in their craft and their continued efforts to develop themselves was used as criterion to select the Imbizo participants
The promoter said the journey they were undertaking was not of instant results hence BIMC had taken the responsibility to give artists and aspiring artistes’ administration an opportunity to learn, grow and change how the music industry is viewed in Botswana. Ends
