Makgato urges BDP women candidates to focus

27 Aug 2019

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) women’s wing chairperson, Ms Dorcas Makgato has implored the party’s candidates in the south west region to remain focused as they gear towards the general election.

“You must be fearless and focused as we move forward. Through that, victory is imminent,” Ms Makgato said at the BDP south west region women’s wing workshop in Kanye on August 26.

The workshop was organised by the wing to induct the prospective parliamentary and council candidates as a way of empowering them for their election campaigns.

Ms Makgato said as long as they were empowered and optimistic, that on its own could guarantee their victory.  She also advised them to be united.

She commended them for having won the primary election and urged them to sound and feel victorious as this was the first stage toward the national election.

“You should take the waves of the primary election to excite and push yourselves across the winning line,” she said.

Ms Makgato also assured them of the win as they belonged to the party that had led the country for more than 50 years.

“There has never been any other party besides the BDP that have led the election. BDP is the only party that has the experience of leading our country, therefore we should consider ourselves privileged,” she said.

Ms Makgato advised them to find and share other strategies they could explore in cases where they do not have funds.

“You need to understand that we can still win the elections even when we do not have funds.  You should use women who have won the elections and share the hardships and experience in order to map their strategy of winning the election,” she said.

Ms Makgato, therefore urged them not to be defied by the manifestos of other parties, as the one provided by the BDP was the best and most comprehensive.

“Our manifesto covers women, youth, job creation, developments and we must know and understand it,” she said.

She then urged them to use their time explaining the programmes, policies and the journey of BDP supporting them with facts and figures.

She further reminded them to understand that they were part of history in liberating the country from evil forces of diverting the leadership of the country.

Briefing them on trade and industrial development bill as a way of empowering them on programmes and policies they could take advantage of, the assistant Minister of Investment Trade and Industry, Mr Karabo Gare, said the 2019 Trade Bill was passed with the aim of simplifying the licensing and procedures.

He said this would improve efficiency in the issuance of business licenses and improve the ease of doing business.

He indicated that the bill was awaiting the assent by the President to enable implementation. Ends
