UDC launches Palapye candidate
26 Aug 2019
Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) leader, Advocate Duma Boko has launched Mr Oneetse Ramogapi as their Palapye prospective parliamentary candidate in Palapye on August 26.
Mr Ramogapi will be contesting for the Palapye parliamentary seat with Mr Gape Motswaledi of Alliance for Progressives (AP) and Mr Moiseraele Goya of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
Launching the prospective parliamentary and council candidates, Advocate Boko said it was time for his party to attain power, hence the need for the constituents to vote for the UDC.
He added that Mr Ramogapi was the rightful candidate to represent them in Parliament, adding that the council candidates would do well in advocating for developments.
Adv. Boko noted that the UDC intended to better the lives of Batswana once in power by introducing the P3 000 minimum wage for the formal sector and increasing pension for the elderly from P530 to P1 500.
He raised a concern about thousands of Batswana graduates in Botswana roaming the streets due to unavailability of employment and also about dilapidated classrooms.
He said UDC should be voted into power for it to improve the education system and lower the number of students per teacher per class.
For his part, UDC member, Mr Vain Mamela said UDC could impact positively on the lives of Batswana if given power to rule by supporting the informal sector and Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).
Mr Mamela explained that SMMEs have great potential to contribute to the Gross Domestic Product of the country.
He noted that UDC would also introduce road taxing programme for commercial trucks to contribute to the national economy.
Mr Mamela said under its rule, UDC would introduce public works programme, which would engage people in road and school maintenance including other projects aimed at improving communities. Ends
