Kiddies festival to create bonding platform

In an endeavor to create a bonding outing between parents and their children Uncle Dipopae has organised a kiddies festival in Dilolwe Gorge Gardens in Kanye scheduled for August 31.
The event, termed Kanye Kiddies Festival and Family Picnic, is expected to strengthen the bond between children and their parents especially that most of them do not stay together. It would also cater for both the young and old, considering that most times, it is parents who go out leaving children behind.
“We have realised that some chidlren stay with either their grandparents or with one of the parents, that is why we are bringing this kind of event to Kanye to afford them the opportunity to spend time together in a jovial mood.
We also wanted to bring the first ever entertainment event that caters for both since mostly it is the parents who go out alone,” explained the organiser, Michael Sekaba, popularly known as Uncle Dipopae.
The event, which will be the first of its kind in Kanye, will also be characterised by various traditional and modern games such as mhele, morabaraba, skipping rope, play stations, motor bike riding and various races, among others.
The purpose of the traditional games, Sekaba said, was to teach and encourage children to acknowledge traditional forms of entertainment as they were mostly exposed to modern technology.
Furthermore, he said a variety of games would hopefully give everybody a chance to enjoy the ones they find appealing while at the time having a light moment as families.
He said in order to spice up the day, they had invited South Africa’s Sankara Magic Man, among other acts to spice up the event.
He noted that other local artistes were also expected to grace the adults’ after party.
He further said their intention was to have the event every two months in Kanye, with a variety of activities to spice it up. ENDS
