10 Jul 2019

Gaborone-based Aregopoleng Gospel Boyz has been nominated for the 2019 INGOMA awards.

The INGOMA serves as the face and voice for upcoming and independent gospel/Christian music community and is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating their talent through recognition and awards.

The awards, which are by no means a competition, but an event that honours and recognises talented and hardworking upcoming, independent gospel artists in their work will be held in South Africa in August.

The group is nominated for best African gospel group and is pitted against three other groups from various countries. In an interview, group member, Tumisang Marumoagae said they were really honoured, adding that the nomination had brought excitement for them. He said the group was well prepared for the big event, noting that they were hoping to bring the award home.

Formed in 2012, the group has also made its name overseas as they had performed at the Stockholm Gospel Choir Festival with the likes of Gerald T Smith, Daniel Dee Jones from USA and St Ignatius choir from Zambia and at the African Gospel Music and Media Awards in London.

Locally, they were nominated for the Annual Gospel Awards and BOGMA and in 2013, they were BOMU’s best traditional gospel award winners and President’s Day Celebrations Awards second finalists.

The four-member ensemble is currently working on their third studio album. ENDS
