Fifty-year-old Gabatwesepe Bogosing was on July 6 crowned Traditional Tswana Woman 50+ beauty contest winner.
Bogosing emerged the fairest of the eight contestants, who took part in the pageant, followed by 60-year-old Maduo Solomon and 50-year-old Joyce Wadipuo as first and second princesses respectively.
The pageant was part of the Kgosi Malope II birthday party fundraising activities organised by Ga Mma Leema culture committee.
The objective was to celebrate traditional women aged 50 years and above by showcasing traditional attire and various Setswana activities and chores performed by women.
Speaking at the event, the chairperson of the committee, Motswakgakala Sealetsa said the main intention of the committee was to collaborate with Kidz Academy International School to resuscitate Setswana culture for the benefit of the pupils and the general public.
He noted that the downward spiral of cultural values prompted them to find ways to help re-build the nation through different cultural aspects.
Sealetsa said they were motivated by cultural values such as respect to organise Kgosi Malope II’s birthday celebrations as a way of honouring him as the paramount chief.
He called on all to support the initiative, which they intend to make an annual event.
He said they were still raising funds for the main event, which is scheduled for end of this month and ‘we need support and donations of any kind, be it presents, monetary donations or volunteering on various aspects’. ENDS
