ZAC construction has been urged to complete Bobonong internal roads within budget and schedule.
Addressing kgotla meeting in Bobonong on August 10, during the commissioning of construction of internal roads and associated works, The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Olebile Gaborone appealed to the contractor to honour time of completion and ensure that works would not interfere with the daily lives of residents.
He said P254 million would be used to construct 20km internal roads in 36 months. The budget also included compensation to relocation of some homesteads and utilities such as water pipes, power lines and telecommunication services.
He said due to shortage of funds, the construction covered the strategic areas of the village such as hospital, clinics and schools while others would be covered if funding was available.
Mr Gaborone said associated works included construction of storm water drainage system and urged the contractor to design them in a manner that would not pose a danger to residents as it was the case in some villages.
Furthermore, he urged the contractor to create a pictorial database of all homesteads that were close to the road to establish who would be eligible for compensation if their homes were damaged by heavy machinery. He pleaded with residents to establish a good working relationship with the contractor to ensure a smooth operation.
For their part, the residents requested the contractor to employ local people especially where skills would not not required. Ends
