School walks for assembly hall
03 Jul 2018
Tagala Primary School standard seven pupils together with their teachers, parents and Parents Teacher Association (PTA) members embarked on a sponsored walk recently to raise funds for the construction of an assembly hall.
Giving the objectives of the walk, the PTA chairperson, Mr Thabo Nyambe explained that the assembly hall would not only be an assembly point for students and teachers but would be helpful in accommodating the multitudes of parents during PTA meetings and other school gatherings.
He added that during rains and harsh weather conditions, meetings were usually postponed because the school lacked a building with large sitting capacity.
The hall, he added, would also be a source of income for the PTA, as the committee would rent it out to the community.
The chairperson however expressed his displeasure in the low turnout of parents during the walk, emphasising that the initiative was meant to benefit current and future students of the school.
Mr Nyambe explained that Tagala Primary School had been adopted by Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) and they had pledged to construct the hall for free, adding that all Tagala Primary School needed to do was raise funds for building materials.
The chief walker, Mr Mbaakanyi Lenyatso commended participants that they showed commitment.
Mr Lenyatso pleaded with teachers and parents as well as the community at large to impart knowledge and skills on the children even outside the classroom.
“They need to be groomed at a young age. I am pledging love first for these children,” he added.
A guest walker for the sponsored walk, Mr Ndakidzilo Seeketso concurred with Mr Nyambe’s concerns that parents needed to take part in their children’s school work including non-curricular activities. ENDS
