Goshwe police donate garden
22 Jul 2013
As a way to contribute to one of Vision 2016 pillars of a compassionate, just and caring nation, Goshwe satellite police recently donated a vegetable garden to the less privileged.
Constable Tshepo Nnewe explained that they were motivated by President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s idea of backyard gardening under the poverty eradication initiative. Goshwe police and their partners also made the garden as a way to give back to the community they lived in.
The garden, located at Goshwe clinic was initially planned to feed home-based care patients affected by tuberculosis (TB). However, the decision was reversed for it to benefit malnourished children under the age of five and other patients because there were no home-based patients who were affected by TB in Goshwe.
Station commander, Superintendent Vusumusi Jorowe, on the other hand, said communities should not see the police as strangers. Supt. Jorowe noted that their efforts to give back to the community fostered love and respect between the police and the people they served.
He thus encouraged the community to cooperate with the police in order to effectively fight crime in the area. He also encouraged them to embark on projects which identified a need in the community and work together. Thus, he thanked police officers and volunteers involved in the project for their noble gesture which he said positively impacted on the lives of identified beneficiaries.
The event was a collaboration between the Botswana Police Service, crime prevention committees and police volunteers ENDS
