DBES Official urges departments to donate

04 Mar 2018

Francistown City Council principal district officer - development, Mr Boyce Mangole has urged government departments to give to the less fortunate.

Speaking at a donation ceremony by the Department of Buildings Engineering Services (DBES) in Francistown recently, Mr Mangole observed that it was not common for different departments to raise funds and donate to the less privileged members of the community.

As such, he commended DBES for donating to children at the SOS village in Francistown and some students with disability at Aerodrome Primary School.

Mr Mangole further noted that during his tenure, President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama had always advocated for the improvement of lives of the less fortunate in order to help them live dignified lives.

“These donations bring positive change in the lives of those who are receiving donations. It is important that other government departments emulate what DBES has done and be compassionate in helping the less privileged members of the community,” he added.

DBES maintenance technical manager, Mr Fadzani Phegelo explained that the department embarked on a fund raising initiative in order to help at SOS.

Mr Phegelo noted that they partnered with local artistes such as Thapelo Maleka popularly known as Mc Maswe, Maghebula and Madala and Kelly Jazz in a festival and tournament to help raise funds.

He further stated that members of a sub-committee of DBES Wellness Committee known as the Women’s Wing Committee contributed P10 each towards buying sanitary pads for Aerodrome Primary School students living with disabilities.

Toiletries bought for children at SOS village cost P3 320 while  the department donated P5 000. ENDS
