04 Feb 2018
The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) usually does not respond to the news articles concerning matters under its investigations.
However, the DCEC is compelled to respond amid recent misleading and regrettable news article, which appeared on the Sunday Standard dated January 28 - February 3, 2018 entitled 'Corrupt DCEC protecting Isaac Kgosi.'
DCEC assures the public of its unwavering commitment in the fight against corruption wherever it manifest itself regardless of the parties involved.
The said article contains a series of derogatory misleading information, if not insults, wrongly accusing the DCEC of “shielding” certain individuals, allegedly in position of power from prosecution.
Therefore, the Directorate will not comment on the allegations raised therein to protect the integrity of the investigations but will do so upon conclusion of same.
Thus, the suggestions that DCEC does not investigate people in positions of power is false, misleading and intended not only to derail this investigation, but also to tarnish the integrity and the good standing of Botswana as a country within a community of nations.
Ffurther, the allegation made by some individuals to the effect that the DCEC protects people in positions of power is absurd, nonsensical and contradictory.
DCEC thus appreciates the support it continues to receive from Batswana who report allegations of corruption in large numbers.
DCEC would like to assure Batswana that it is still relevant because of the integrity it exudes in carrying out its investigations and the support it gets when requesting information during the course of investigations. DCEC
