Sewage ponds project ends August
03 Jul 2013
Residents of Letlhakane have been informed that the ongoing P4 million sewage ponds maintenance would be completed in August this year.
Senior assistant council secretary, Mr Motshwariemang Matseka said his office was aware that closure of the ponds had inconvenienced the community as it was costly to dispose waste water in Serowe. He said the ponds were closed to allow maintenance work to be carried out. He noted that the commencement of the project delayed due to some challenges encountered at tender stage.
Mr Matseka was responding to concerns raised by residents during a kgotla meeting addressed by lands and housing minister at Letlhakane on July 2. He said after completion of the maintenance works, future plans regarding the project would be the responsibility of the Water Utilities Corporation.
Minister Lebonaamang Mokalake had wanted an update on the project and for the council authority to clarify allegations that individuals and companies disposed sewage waste into the bush.
Mr Matseka said such cases were being investigated by the police and those involved in the act would be charged accordingly.
One resident, Mr Tuelo Pelaelo had appealed to council to repair the sewer line because the smell from the waste water was unbearable. However, Mr Matseka informed residents that the ongoing maintenance would also repair the damaged sewer line. ENDS
