BDP goes on structure revival mission

06 Aug 2017

“Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is determined to serve Batswana more years to come and will win the coming elections not because of chaos in opposition parties, but because of what it stands for,” party secretary general, Mr Mpho Balopi has said.

In an interview at the end of Kweneng East regional meeting held in Kopong on August 4, Mr Balopi said BDP was committed to changing lives of Batswana for the better.

He said the party would achieve its election objective by putting in place party structures as promised by BDP president.

He also said it was critical that they continued to visist and resuscitate structures more because the region had two constituencies under opposition in Mogoditshane and Gabane/Mankgoadi which they wished to re-capture.

Mr Balopi said constituencies were reporting on progress and areas of concerns, readiness and advised those who lost in primary elections to always rally behind victors in order to present a united party in 2018.

The secretary general also said the tour and address of regions by party president and leadership, which is the 68th, was also to ensure that democrats continue with the spirit of unity displayed at recent party congress in Tonota.

On the opposition, he said BDP did not wish them bad, because the role of opposition was to continue to give advice to government.

“We wish they can stop their wars so that they can give us advice. We don’t wish them bad, we want them to have peace and hope they can adopt Setswana cultural norms and values of resolving conflicts- spirit of conpromise. We need opposition to advice us to develop Batswana,” he said.

The regional meeting which covered areas such Mogoditshane, Thamaga, Gabane/Mmankgodi and Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituencies was addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi was also in attendance. ENDS
