Support UDC candidates-Saleshando

19 Jul 2017

Members of Botswana Congress Party (BCP) across the country have been urged to support Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) candidates in their constituencies even if they were not from their party.
BCP leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando made the appeal when officially closing the party’s 9th national conference in Francistown on Monday.

This, he noted, was the only way in which they could attain state power.

The BCP leader informed party delegates that the end of the conference marked the beginning of the 2019 general election campaign, hence the need for the party to work hard and not rest on its laurels.

In addition, he highlighted that Botswana was in need of new leadership which could take the party forward, and said the UDC was the answer to the country’s challenges.

He also reminded them that like all organisations, the UDC would experience challenges but noted that it was up to the parties to respond accordingly and overcome them.

“In all the 17 constituencies which we have been allocated we have to deliver victory, hence it is in our interest that candidates from our cooperating partners win,” he explained.

Mr Saleshando thanked delegates for the good work and deliberations during commissions. Consequently, he reminded them that the central committee could only deliver good results if party structures in the regions were functional and effective.

On other issues, he heaped praise on some constituencies for their good performance in attracting and recruiting members to the party. Special mention was given to the Serowe North constituency which had no party members but currently boasts 600 card carrying activists.

Bobonong was also applauded for its good work while Okavango was commended for managing to retain a majority of members after the defection of the area Member of Parliament, Mr Bagalatia Arone who joined the ruling Botswana Democratic Party. BOPA
